Biographical Overview

Jonathan David Cahn (b. 1959, New York State) is an American Messianic rabbi, author, and novelist best known for his 2011 debut novel The Harbinger. Raised in a Jewish family — the son of a Holocaust refugee — he converted to Messianic Judaism at age twenty following a near-death experience. He is founder and leader of the Beth Israel Worship Center in Wayne, New Jersey, and president of Hope of the World Ministries, an international outreach and evangelism organization.

Education & Formation

Cahn graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase. His theological formation followed his conversion experience at age twenty, developing through his own intensive study of Scripture and the Hebraic roots of the Christian faith rather than through a conventional seminary track.

Ministry & Professional History

Cahn founded Hope of the World Ministries, an international evangelism and compassion outreach organization, and serves as its president. He leads the Beth Israel Worship Center, a Messianic congregation whose worship blends Jewish liturgical elements with a New Testament confession of Jesus as Messiah; the congregation was based in Garfield, New Jersey, throughout the 1990s before relocating to Wayne, New Jersey, in 2008.
