Dr. Michael Brown

Early Life and Background

Michael L. Brown was born in 1955 in New York City. He grew up in a Jewish family and, as he himself reports, led a turbulent life as a teenager—he has stated that at age 16 he was using heroin and LSD while playing rock-drums in a Jewish rock band.

In 1971 he became a believer in Jesus Christ (Yeshua), and that event marked a decisive turning point in his life’s trajectory.

Education and Academic Credentials

After his conversion, Brown pursued rigorous academic training. He holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from New York University.

Over the years he has served as a visiting or adjunct professor at multiple seminaries and universities, including Fuller Theological Seminary, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Gordon‑Conwell Theological Seminary (Charlotte campus), Southern Evangelical Seminary and others.

  • His ministry focuses heavily on themes of revival, spiritual renewal, Christian cultural engagement, and the relationship between the Gentile Church and the Jewish people—especially in the context of Messianic belief.

Theological Emphasis & Influence

  • Brown’s theological perspective is shaped by his Jewish heritage, his charismatic Christian faith, and his academic training. He affirms the continuing significance of Israel and the Jewish people within God’s redemptive plan, while also strongly emphasizing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is for all nations.
  • In the realm of cultural engagement, Brown addresses moral, spiritual and cultural issues from a Christian point of view and advocates for repentance, revival, and cultural transformation.
  • As an apologist, he frequently debates topics such as the identity of the Messiah, anti-Semitism in the church, and how Christians should engage Jewish Scripture and heritage.

Dr. Brown married his wife Nancy in 1976; she is also a Jewish believer in Jesus. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
